Painted in sombre colours, the Feast of the Protecting Veil of the Mother of God surrounded by saints shown half-length including the Archangel Gabriel, an unidentified saint, Saints Philip Metropolitan of Moscow, Zosima and Savatii, Nikita, Nicolas and Paraskeva Piatnitsa, on partially gilt ground, surrounded by a repoussé, chased and a 17th-century engraved gilt-metal oklad

Lot Essay

It has been suggested that this icon could date from the 14th or early 15th century although Lazovi describes it as 16th century.
