A William and Mary walnut and marquetry longcase clock
Simon Lambe, Rochester; circa 1695
The case with bird and floral marquetry inlaid to the later skirted plinth and trunk door with brass-framed lenticle, similar marquetry to the throat moulding and to the hood now lacking columns, later pierced wood sound fret to the freize, the 12 in. sq. dial signed Simon Lambe Rochester on the silvered chapter ring with pierced blued steel hands, the matted centre with centrally engraved rosette and decorated calendar aperture, subsidiary seconds ring and ringed winding holes, crown-and-cherub spandrels within a wheatear engraved border (dial lacking right hand tip), the four pillar movement with anchor escapement and outside countwheel strike on bell
