The case of typical form with rectangular recessed bevelled escapement viewing glass to the top and inlaid with a replaced circular bone plaque 8 Day chronometer, (originally inset with a spirit level), the front inlaid with tram-line brass stringing, similarly glazed sides, the moulded base on adjustable ebony feet, the base pasted with its original Mercer label dated October 1932, the circular silvered dial with Roman chapter ring with blued steel hour hand (lacking minute hand) signed in the centre Thomas Mercer St.Albans ENG. No. 660., subsidiary seconds ring below XII with engraved red-filled lettering to the centre AUXILIARY COMPENSATION, balance stop/start lever between chapters XII and I, eight-day up-and-down sector above VI, the movement with substantial rectangular spotted brass plates secured with four massive gilt-brass double-screwed balaster pillars, large escapement platform with cut bimetallic compensated balance with Mercer auxiliary to Earnshaw escapement (lacking foot detent and banking block), chain fusee with maintaining power
