The silvered dial signed and numbered Armstrongs Manchester 14663 Auxiliary Compensation, Roman hour numerals, subsidiary seconds and up-and-down dials, blued steel hands, Earnshaw escapement, cut bimetallic balance with Mercer's auxiliary, cylindrical heat compensation weights, palladium helical balance spring, spring foot detent with jewelled locking stone, brass bowl and gimbal, three-tier brass bound light mahogany box, the middle section with inset bone disc inscribed Armstrongs 14663 Manchester, flush recessed brass handles.

Lot Essay

Armstrongs are recorded at 78 Deans Gate, Manchester circa 1930.
The chronometer was made for them by Thomas Mercer Ltd, St Albans and the movement, dial-plate and bowl carry their works' number 14663.
