A FINE AND RARE BLUE AND WHITE EUROPEAN-STYLE CISTERN AND COVER
mid 18th century
The shape imitating a Western wall fountain probably used for serving red wine at room temperature, with Chinese features visible in the pierced borders and applied qilin-cover finial, glazed overall except for the applied finial and unicorn-head handles suspending rings, lavishly painted to three sides in rich cobalt blue with flower-sprays and geometric bands, the back pierced with a cash pattern and two holes for suspension, detachable metal tap, base with chip, cover rim with some restoration
