A pair of Imari vases and covers
Edo Period (Late 17th/early 18th Century)
Decorated in iron-red and gilt on underglaze blue with branches of peony blossom and foliage growing from rockwork, pagodas among cherry trees perched on mountains within four shaped panels, the shoulder with a band of shaped panels formed as karakusa containing camellias, bellflowers and arrowheads, the neck and the foot with a similar band of chrysanthemum buds and scrolling foliage, the covers similarly decorated, slight rubbing to gilt, drilled and covers restored
