Lot Essay

This pastel dates from Liotard's last visit to England in 1773 and 1774. Clanbrassil commissioned from Liotard another portrait in 1774, and one of his wife the Countess, both offered at Christie's, 6 July 1993, lot 184. This is probably a ricordo kept by Liotard in his studio.
