2 volumes in one, 2 (360 x 220mm). Title and prefaces in Greek and Latin, text in Greek, blanks cc6 and Zzz4 in vol.I and TTT4 in vol.II. (Old staining to upper blank margins of leaves q5-z8 in vol.I.) Late 16th century vellum, yapp edges, 19th-century spine label and gilt lettering (ties lacking). Provenance: ?De Jili (partially erased signature on title); epigram in an early unidentified hand, partially erased; Goulley of Rouen (signature on title).

A FINE UNSOPHISTICATED COPY OF WHAT IS "UNQUESTIONABLY HENRI ESTIENNE'S TYPOGRAPHIC MASTERPIECE" (Schreiber). Apart from its beauty, the text is important as it established a form for Homer that became the standard for three hundred years. This edition also gives improved texts for a number of other important Greek writers, such as Hesiod, Theocritus, and others. Adams P-1699; Renouard 126, no.5; Schreiber 160.
