Contemporary red morocco by Bozrian jeune, wide gilt dentelle borders incorporating starburst cornerpiece tools, spine gilt deccorated with classical urn ornaments, gilt inner dentelles, g.e. binding signed at foot of spine 'Rel. par Bozrian jeune'. Modern slipcase.
AN EXCEPTIONALLY FINELY BOUND COPY OF LAVALLEE'S WORK. Hoefer already noted that it had become a rare item. Pierre Didot actually took over all of the copper plates and finished the work after the whole stock of printed plates had been destroyed in a fire. Complete with all finely engraved plates, this copy has an additional 'bis' numbered plate (55bis) which is not mentioned in the table.
