(Titles shaved and slightly restored at upper edge, leaves I4-K4 trimmed at outer margin and possibly supplied, lacking final blank, woodcut of Giralomo Genga (Rrr4) with letterpress over-label title.) 19th century green morocco, double gilt fillet with corner fleurons on covers, spine elaborately gilt, gilt inner dentelles, g.e. FIRST ILLUSTRATED EDITION OF THE "FIRST MODERN HISTORY OF ART"...The book first appeared in Florence in 1550 in two volumes with one hundred and thirty-three lives: but the 1568 edition in three volumes, bringing the biographies up to 1567, is the first complete one, with one hundred and sixty-one lives, and the first to be illustrated with woodcut portraits. It also contains an autobiography and a valuable treatise on technical methods employed in the arts" (PMM 88).
