Lot Essay

The gun was completed in 1867 for Capt. Mickery of the Royal Engineers. The gun is remarkable in having very early steel barrels; the steel used for the chambers appears to be of a different hardness and consistency to that used for the rest of the barrels. The action flat is stamped 'STEEL'
