May 1864 and their patent lift-up toplever, rebounding sidelocks, the hammers with spurs of hare's-ear form and the strikers with 'LOADED' indicators, border engraving with some hardening-colour, boldly-figured stock with butt-plate, the skeletal action-bar enclosing the bar-in-wood at the forend-knuckle, the browned fine damascus barrels with game-rib

Lot Essay

The makers have kindly confirmed that gun No. 5556 was completed in 1874 for the export market which favoured generally heavier guns. This gun was one of two, with No. 5608, which were supplied with Powell patent 'uplift levers' and patent gold-inlaid 'loaded' strikers
