Lot Essay

"Langlands & Bell's chairs and tables are metaphors for the body and society. Their minimalist white furniture acts as a link between ourselves and the architectonic spaces that both enable and constrain us. Models of institutional buildings such as prisons are encased within tables and chairs, conflating the boundaries between public and private, between bodies and organisms of power. 'Sensation: Young British Artists from the Saatchi Collection', London, 1997, p.201).
