Gates, four months after the American triumph at Saratoga over Burgoyne, has been appointed by Congress to the Board of War, and forwards, in this capacity, "the Resolutions of Congress recommending it to the young Gent[lemen] of Property in the State of Delaware form a Volunteer Troop of Light Calvary. Annexed thereto is a descriptive list of accoutrements necessary to be provided for their taking the field." -- GATES. Document signed, New York, 8 May 1801. 1 page, 4to.
