TYLER, JOHN, President. Printed document signed ("J. Tyler") as President, countersigned by Daniel Webster as Secretary of State, Washington, D.C., 3 October 1842. 1 page, folio, accomplished in manuscript, one paper seal. FOUR-LANGUAGE SHIP'S PAPERS for the Pioneer commanded by Joseph A Fullman, "...laden with Provisions, Stores and Materials for a whaling voyage," and sailing from New Bedford bound for the Pacific Ocean. Ship's papers, a document with text in French, Spanish, English and Dutch, attempted to insure safe passage for American ships (which had been subject to seizure at sea by France and England), by affirming the vessels' neutral ownership and declaring that "no subjects of the present belligerent powers have any part or portion therein, directly nor indirectly."
