A river Landscape with a ruined Castle beyond

The present work is by the same hand as the painting sold at Sotheby's, New York, Jan. 30, 1997, lot 222 ($25,300) which was believed by Dr. C. Hofstede de Groot to be a '... characteristic work by Meindert Hobbema', and which was recorded in G. Broulhiet's monograph of 1938 as by Hobbema (see G. Broulhiet, Meindert Hobbema, 1938, p. 393, no. 126, ill. p. 165).
