A Swansea crested two-handled shaped rectangular dish
printed and painted with the 'Manderin' pattern below cartouched of bords among branches, the borders reserved with a crest above the motto Y DDUW BRO DIOLCH (to God be thanks), the branche handles richly golt, iron-red stencil mark, circa 1819 (some scratches and minor rubbing to gilding) -- 32cm. wide

Lot Essay

The crest is that of Lloyd.

This service was made for Thomas Lloyd of Bronwydd, Cardiganshire, probably on the occasion of his marriage to Ann-Davies, daughter of John Thomas of Llwdcoed and Letty Mawr, Carmarthenshire. He was High Sheriff of Cardiganshire, their sone, Thomas-Davies Lloyd was created baronet in 1863.

This is the only Welsh service recorded with a Welsh motto.
