each painted by Joseph Thorley with a vignette of a putto, signed, within a gilt and black-line roundels below a gilt crest, the border painted with fruiting vines between acid etched and gilt key pattern bands, pattern X7447, printed Portland vase marks, circa 1908 -- 23cm. diam.

Lot Essay

The crests are those of Russell.

The service from which the above lot is taken was ordered by Herbrand, 11th Duke of Bedford for use on his private yatch.
