AN ENGRAVED, GOLD AND SILVER BANDED WINCHESTER-MURATA 20-BORE TAKE-DOWN GUN, SERIAL No. 3472
The smooth-bore barrel mounted with buck-horn rear and blade fore-sight, sling swivel and embellished with two gold bands scrolls and Japanese characters, translated as Number 24 on the octagonal breech section (marks). Action engraved throughout with scrollwork. Varnished figured walnut stock and fore-end (light marks) with ebony insert.
Designed by General Tsunyoshi Murata in 1886. The Japanese government placed a sizable order of 30,000 rifles with the Winchester factory.
