Oscar Parkes, O.B.E., M.B., Ch.B; Chaevalier Ordre Mérite Maritime served as a surgeon in the First World War on the hospital ship Karapara which was being escorted by Lowestoft when H.M.H.S. Dover Castle was torpedoed and sunk. H.M.S. Lowestoft was launched in 1913 and sold in 1931
