A commemorative Battle of the Nile black painted plaster bust of Admiral Nelson
After a model by Seymour Damer, Nelson depicted with the Battle of the Nile medal for 1798 around his neck, stamped to the reverse SCHOUT Holborn, on a waisted socle, with a fluted cast iron [Coalbrookdale?] plinth -- 29in. (73.6cm.) high; the plinth -- 40in. (101.5cm.)

Lot Essay

Damer's original marble bust from which this plaster copy is modelled is in the London Guildhall where it has resided since its commission in 1801. This copy is believed to date from 1806
