Lot Essay

The juxtaposition of the various geometric forms somewhat foreshadows the early work of Frank Lloyd Wright (with Adler and Sullivan at the time of the Stock Exchange commission) as can be seen in his copper urns and weed holders starting in 1895. cf. Brian Spencer, The Prairie School Tradition, Whitney Library of Design, New York, 1979, p.31 for an illustration of a similar baluster.
