ALBERT, PRINCE CONSORT (1819-1861)
Autograph letter signed ("Albert") to "Mon cher Comte" [Comte de Saint Aulaire, French Ambassador to England], one page, 4°, integral blank leaf, Claremont, 14 July 1842, stating that he has been terribly alarmed by the almost unbelievable report of the death of the Duc d'Orleans, and asking if it can be true. With an annotation at the head of the page in the hand of the ambassador ("répondu le meme jour"). The Duc d'Orleans was the eldest son of Louis Philippe, King of the French, and the report of his early death at the age of 32 was, indeed, true.

Autograph letter signed ("Albert"), written during his last illness to William Cowper, Lord Palmerston's heir, 4½ pp., 8°, black-edged paper, Osborne, 1 August 1861, concerning the Agricultural Society and space for its activities in Battersea Park (mounted on an album leaf by the last page). (2)
