NANCY CUNARD
Autograph letter signed ("Nancy"), to "Paul," 8 pages, 8°, Nice, Dec. 6th, 1956.
Referring to a recent visit to the recipient's house, discussing regions of France and the Spanish people, in particular Silvestre, "I think both of you will have shown him how "life" could be (and never is) with your beautiful, kindly, heart-filled "home-life" -- God bless the term!" Thanking him for the review of Tom Driberg's book on Guy Burgess, "Dear me ... knowing both - well, the one has done, I suppose, as well as he could by (and to) the other ... Still I wonder: dans quel but was this "flight"?", also mentioning Mr Cyril Connolly and Max Beerbohm. She goes on to say "My dear Paul, I wish to God I were A PAINTER. Then, I suppose, there would be no fiddle-faddle of "why" and "because" - you see: your face (my dear, as many friends must say) is overpowering. Face encloses personality, as, of course, does shape). Well, at the sight of it, all loving, romantic and every other feeling I've had for England rose in a gulp."
