He thanks her for her letter: "even though you were not able to recommend a maid for Mrs Hull" and apologises for not having replied earlier: "My time at Eastbourne, after you wrote, was so fully taken up, that I did not find the opportunity of calling, as I intended on your niece Mrs Storr." He concludes: "With the appropriate message (whatever it be) to Ella ...."
