An 8½-inch (22cm.) diameter terrestrial table globe made up of twelve coloured printed paper gores, and two polar calottes, the equatorial and prime meridian graduated in degrees, the oceans labelled with ocean currents, cable routes and steamship routes with ports of arrival and departure and journey length in nautical miles, the continents with nations variously coloured and showing political and physical geographical information including railway lines (large crack from Antarctic circle to the equator just east of Madagascar), with brass meridian half circle engraved on one side, mounted on baluster turned fruitwood pillar and plinth base -- 16¼in. (41.3cm.) high

One of the most prolific German globe manufacturers of the nineteenth century, Dietrich Reimer (1818-1899) made globes with Heinrich Kiepert (1818-1899), initially reworking Carl Adami's globes whose firm Reimer bought up around 1852. Ernst Vohsen appears to have taken control of the company on the Reimer's death, but to have retained the original name.
