A French giant gilt-brass grande sonnerie carriage clock with perpetual calendar and moonphase
No. 57758. Last quarter 19th century.
The case with reeded handle to the moulded top with large viewing aperture with bevelled glass, flattened urn finials surmounting twin reeded columns to the four angles, on stepped base, with scroll engraved mask to the white enamel Roman dial with Arabic five minutes, blued moon hands, the perpetual calendar dial below displaying moonphase, day, date and month with zodiac, the twin barrel movement with silvered platform to cut bimetallic balance with lever escapement, grande sonnerie strike on two gongs of square section with three-position selection lever in the base, the backplate numbered 57758, with 24-hour enamel dial at the base, interconnecting lever to the calendar movement below with calibrated bisextile disc
