Lot Essay

It is probable that the signature Martin & Co. relates to T. Martin & Co. A gorge case by Drocourt with the latter retail signature on both dial and platform is illustrated in Charles Allix and Peter Bonnert Carriage Clocks, Antique Collectors' Club 1974, pp.117-8, figs.V/19, 20 & 21. Allix records that they moved from 225 Regent Street to 151 Regent Street circa 1893, succceeding Henry Capt at that address.
