A French giant gilt-brass striking chronometer carriage clock with remontoire and pivoted detent escapement
Berthoud. late 19th century
The engine-turned case with handle and large bevelled glass aperture to the top, silvered engine-turned dial with large subsidiary seconds ring above the Roman chapter ring, signed Berthoud on a reserve beneath XII, blued moon hands, eight-day up-and-down sector above VI, the twin barrel movement with four double-screwed conical pillars, large platform having a cut bimetallic balance with overcoiled blued hairspring to the pivoted detent escapement, the going train with thirty minute remontoire, strike on gong on the plain backplate
