A French gilt-brass striking and repeating carriage clock with alarm

The bambu case with silvered mask to the blue and grey enamel dial, within bamboo frame, each Roman chapter also within a painted bamboo frame, blued hands, with conforming alarm dial below, the twin barrel movement with silvered platform to the bimetallic balance with lever escapement, strike/repeat/alarm on gong to the backplate stamped for A. Dumas and numbered 1081, repeat stamps to underside; with original leather travel case

Lot Essay

Most bambu case carriage clocks do not continue the stick bamboo theme to the dial, as on the present clock. Another example with bamboo frames to the main and subsidiary dials may be seen in Derek Roberts Carriage and Other Travelling Clocks Schiffer 1993, p.98, fig.6-29.
