Details
BERNI, Francesco. Orlando innamorato, Venice: Michel Bonelli, 1576.

4°, printer's device to title and final leaf, numerous woodcut vignettes, headpieces and initials (mainly marginal light waterstaining, some leaves lightly browned or spotted), contemporary vellum, manuscript title to spine (soiled, hinges split but cords holding). Provenance: Horton, old inscription on title; Sir William Molesworth, bookplate.

Orlando innamorato is one of the most popular and reprinted romances of chivalry. The poem, written by Matteo Maria Boiardo (1441-1494), was left unfinished and was refashioned by Francesco Berni (1496/7-1535). Berni's recast was for a long time regarded as superior to Boiardo's original. The first complete edition of Orlando innamorato was published in 1506. Censimento B2766.
