FIRST EDITION IN BOOK FORM, SCARCE IN TWO VOLUMES. Smith 3, note 3: "Several copies of a two-volume issue of Pickwick exist. Circumstances regarding this issue are obscure, but Eckel and others, including Carr, McCutcheon, and Sawyer, have suggested that it preceded the one-volume issue, was abandoned before many copies were distributed, and did not appear in publisher's cloth."
