A fan, the leaf with an oval stipple engraving coloured by hand, after Kaufmann, the ivory sticks finely carved and pierced with birds, a grasshopper and other insects, the guardsticks carved with a crowned head and with the head of a classical lady with a butterfly - 11in. (29cm.), circa 1790
Provenance
The Collection of the French lawyer Lucien Duchet part of which was exhibited at the Exposition Universelle de 1900 Paris . Inherited by the vendor from an ancestor who was a neighbour of Duchet. Another portion of the collection was sold by Christie's South Kensington in 1981.
