Four albums, the first with nineteen albumen prints, each approx. 8 x 10½ in., signed Stretton and numbered in the negatives, titled in ink on mounts, half red morocco, oblong 4to.; the second with thirty-seven albumen prints, each approx. 9½ x 11½ in. and six albumen prints 4 x 5 in., the majority titled and a few with credit J. L. Phot. in the negatives, half black morocco, oblong 4to.; the third with 130 photographs, albumen prints and printing-out-paper prints, the majority approx. 4¼ x 6 in., titled in ink on mounts, several loose, these with ink captions on verso, half red morocco, titled in gilt on front cover, 4to.; the last with forty-five photographs, the majority albumen prints, various sizes to approx. 12 x 15½ in., a few titled and one credited J. Laurent Madrid in the negative, half black morocco, lge. oblong 4to. (4)

Lot Essay

The African album includes portraits from the Cape Coast; the Abitiffi Mission, portraits of Kings and Chiefs; several views and portraits relating to the Boundary Commission of 1892 and others relating to the Attabubu Expedition, 1894 and the Attabubu Expeditionary Force, Abitiffi, 1893. Also containing a few photographs of Madeira, Gran Canaria (four initialled J.H.T.E. in the negatives) and Teneriffe.
