Three concertina albums containing a total of 124 hand-tinted albumen prints, each approx. 3½ x 5¼ in. or the reverse, black and red lacquer boards (detached and part disbound) and Japanese cloth, the lacquer albums each with gilt onlay depicting a bird by a river and butterflies on one and a woman travelling in a boat down a river on the other, each 4¼ x 6¾ in. (3)

Lot Essay

Portraits of geisha, women dining, in travelling chairs, making lanterns, playing instruments, and spinning wool; other portraits include a man in a traditional straw raincoat, Japanese wrestlers, Buddhist priests; an execution scene and a few river views and studies of temples.
