Lot Essay

An unusual album with approx. thirty views in and around Hong Kong, eleven of these relating to the plague and showing the disinfection of streets, the removal of furniture for burning, coffins being removed from a temporary hospital and morgue, and groups of plague workers. Two photographs 'before and after' the execution by beheading of pirates; and five views showing devastation after a typhoon. Other subjects include the Hong Kong Cricket Team v. Shanghai, 1892; military exercises at Chatham; the 1st Shropshire Light Infantry; military groups in India at 'Pachmari', 1897; the wedding of Maj. Stanton and Miss Low and other views at Poona; Agra; Purandhur; Ceylon; and a portrait of a Natch Girl, Benares.
