With octagonal sighted barrel inscribed 'Harvey's Patent Breech Loading Revolving Pistol', scroll engraved action, trigger-guard and pommel incorporating a butt-trap, hinged detachable rammer/turnscrew nipple-key, and cylinder release stud on the left side (parts replaced), Birmingham proof marks

This pistol and rammer were covered by British patents respectively of 26 May 1853 and 11 December 1854, granted to William John Harvey. See Claude Blair, Pistols of the World, p. 136, No.s 632-33. Total production of all Harvey revolvers (pistols as well as rifles) is unlikely to have exceeded one thousand units
