An Ornamental Dagger
19th Century, probably French
With straight leaf-shaped fullered blade with ricasso, partly etched and gilt with running conventional foliage, and heavy silvered and gilt cast bronze hilt (silvering and gilding rubbed) formed as a sculptured group representing a turbaned oriental about to stab a woman with a dagger, standing on arched quillons with a side-shell inscribed 'Othello', in cast bronze scabbard en suite decorated in high relief on each face with the same design of strapwork and a female figure under an arch, the sides with female terms, the finial with pierced caryatids
