Lot Essay

When the planet is threatened with destruction, Superman's father, Jor-El [Marlon Brando] and his mother Lara [Susannah York] despatch the infant Superman (Kal-El) to Earth in a spacecraft made of crystals and containing one of the green "storage" crystals with stored information. Although the crystal placed in the spacecraft by Jor-El is smaller than the one in this lot, a similar sized crystal appears in the sequence when the young Superman [Jeff East] throws the crystal he found in the spacecraft on to the frozen lake. By doing this he summons up the crystal palace which enables him to acquire a knowledge of his background and the source of his powers.
