Lot Essay

On September 9th, 1956, Elvis made the first of his three live television appearances before a viewing audience of 54 million, on Ed Sullivan's Talk Of The Town show, for which he received an unprecedented fee of $50,000. Elvis used the show to introduce the song Love Me Tender which was the title song of his first film. His sensational performance led to such a demand for this record, that when presented with advance orders of 856,237, RCA were forced to rush-release it ahead of schedule.

Presley appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show on September 9th, 1957, October 28th, 1957 and January 6th, 1958. These signatures were obtained by a member of the audience on one of these occasions.
