A dentist's surgery

The present picture was inspired by a composition by Theodore Rombouts of which three versions are known: in the Národiní Galerie, Prague, the Prado, Madrid and the Musée des Beaux-Arts, Ghent (see Benedict Nicolson, Caravaggism in Europe, Oxford, 1979, vol. I p.166, vol.III, nos. 1013 and 1014, illustrated).
