made by Christopher Perrett, the mahogany frame with lacquered-brass fittings, glass insulators, leyden jars, vulcanite fittings, the two 16-inch glass plates with segments, the axis with leather driving band, with winding handle, mounted on a baize-covered mahogany stand with glazed cover -- 31½in. (80cm.) high

Lot Essay

At the 4th Annual National Model Engineering Show in 1997, this Wimshurst Machine, made by C.R. Perrett, was exhibited as a demonstration model, and the following year was awarded Third Prize in the Exhibition Section of the show (the certificate is included with the Lot). It was further awarded "The Dobson Memorial Cup" for best work of the year for 1997, by the York City and District Society of Model Engineers.
