A 19th-Century oxidised-brass transit telescope,
signed on the body-tube back plate TROUGHTON & SIMMS LONDON, the 23¾in. long body-tube with ray shade, dust slide, 1¾in. object glass, the trunnion with balance weight to one side, the other with 4¼in. vertical circle, the silvered scale divided in four quadrants, with bubble level, twin verniers and magnifiers, tangent-screw fine adjustment and folding clamp to attach to the stand, the cross bubble with engraved divisions (1 DIV=2") and engraved with the Troughton & Simms monogram, with mahogany carrying knob and the associated illuminating lamp, the brass chimney with lens and supporting base, with various accessories, in the original mahogany carrying case with two brass swing carrying handles -- 28¾in. (73cm.) wide
