A late 19th-Century oxidised and lacquered-brass transit theodolite,
signed on the silvered compass dial Elliott Brors, Strand, London, No. 370, the telescope with rack and pinion focusing, ray shade, dust slide, bubble level and four wire adjusters, the axis raised on two A-frame supports with the 5½in. vertical circle having a silvered scale divided in four quadrants, with two verniers and magnifiers, the horizontal plate with cross bubble, the compass box with edge-bar needle, jewelled cap and needle clamp, the horizontal chamfered silvered circle finely divided with single magnifier and two verniers, tangent-screw fine adjustment and clamp, raised on a four-screw tripod mounting, with various accessories, in the original fitted mahogany case, with two brass carrying handles and outer leather cover -- 14¼in. (36.2cm.) wide
