A mid 19th-Century brass miniature theodolite,
signed on the horizontal plate Troughton & Simms, LONDON, the telescope with rack and pinion focusing, lens cap and bubble level located by twin clamps with pins on a sub-frame supported with the axis and vertical half circle divided into quadrants, with silvered scale and vernier, rack and pinion adjustment over the silvered compass, with edge-bar needle and clamp, the horizontal plate with cross bubble over the chamfered silvered horizontal scale, with twin verniers, tangent-screw fine adjustment and clamp, on four-screw tripod attachment, with maker's original trade label, plummet, screw-driver and tommy-bar, and the original vernier reading magnifier, contained in the original mahogany carrying case -- 7¾in. (19.7cm.) wide
