Lot Essay

A master of the family genre scene, Morgan was one of the most accomplished painters of children during the Victorian Era and a frequent exhibitor at the Royal Academy from 1865 to 1902. His style is reminiscent of Arthur John Elsley's and Charles Burton Barber's (see lot 51). Morgan was best known for his delightful interpretations of children at play. His paintings were highly collected during his lifetime and prints were produced of his most popular works.
