The style of molding and carving to these figures, particularly the treatment of the hair to the back of the head, suggests these figures are from the same tomb as lot 18 in the present sale. Sancai-glazed figures of court ladies of this model are well-known and a classic element of the Tang dynasty tomb retinue.

A larger example with high chignon was sold in Christie's, New York, March 20, 1997, lot 162.
