Lot Essay

Frances Gruber Safford and Ruth Wilford Caccavale, "Japanesque Silver by Tiffany and Company in the Metropolitan Museum of Art," The Magazine Antiques, October 1987, p. 811, fig. 5 for an illustration of a similar creamer, suger bowl and sugar sifter set in the original box. These sets probably held thick cream and powdered sugar to be served with fresh berries, a popular dessert of the period.
