THREE ROMAN TERRACOTTA OIL LAMPS
circa 1st-3rd century a.d.
Including a brown-slip lamp with a small round nozzle and a ring handle, the discus framed by two raised concentric rings, molded with a lovemaking scene, the woman reclining to the right leaning on a pillow, her left leg bent and lifted, her left arm at her side, her lover facing her, kneeling on his right knee and holding her ankle in his right hand, an illegible workshop signature on the base; a lamp with voluted nozzle, the discus molded with a lovemaking scene, the man kneeling on the left, his right arm on his hip, his left in the arch of the back of his lover who bends forward on her knees resting on her elbows; and a large brown slip lamp with a ring handle and round nozzle, the discus framed by a raised concentric rings and a band of zig-zag, molded with a lovemaking scene, the man standing on the left, his left arm on the back of his lover who stands before him, leaning forward and bracing herself with her arms outstretched, her head turned toward the viewer, a gesticulating attendant to the right
