TWO ROMAN BRONZE FITTINGS
circa 1st century b.c.-1st century a.d.
Both depicting coitus a tergo, the lovers on an integral rectangular plinth, on one the woman raises her head and turns to look back at her lover, a crescent-shaped stephane in her hair which is arranged in a chignon in back, her diademed lover with his hands on her buttocks, his feet extending over the edge of the plinth, the other with a nearly identical scene except that the man's phallus protrudes through her, draping down from between her shoulders in place of her head, the plinths each surmounting the rim of two plates joined by a cylindrical bar near the base, the front of each with a facing head of Medusa wearing a crenelated crown in her wavy hair
